I was referred to Alliance Fencing Equipment Texas, and while I appreciated being able to find gear locally, the experience was not what I expected. When I looked up the address, I saw it was a private residence and texted the owner to confirm—he let me know it was his home. That alone made me hesitant to visit, especially since I was bringing my child. Upon arrival, it was clear that part of the home and garage was being used as warehouse space. Meanwhile, someone was cooking dinner and watching TV in the background. It was a little uncomfortable and definitely not a traditional business setting. The website lists a California address, but they also operate out of Texas, which isn’t made clear online. And honestly, for the amount I paid, I expected a professional storefront experience.
Went to an RYC in Walnut, CA. Alliance Fencing was the vendor at this particular event. Seeing them in person has made me never want to do business with them ever. I will even tell my students to stay away. Very poor customer service. I was looking at grips because I needed to purchase a few. It took a while for me to talk to the seller. An older lady. I asked her how much a particular grip cost. She looked at me and said, Quote "Expensive, " and proceeded to turn her back on me and walked away. A friend was with me, and we were appalled. It didn't help that earlier. I tried asking, but she was busy. So I gave her the courtesy and waited until she wasn't busy. Being snapped at was seriously something I didn't expect. We will not be using their business in the future.
Their customer service is really good, but their sizing directions needs an update. I ordered a full set: jacket, lame, plastron, and pants. However, none of them fit, even after following their sizing chart. The "add 5 inches" instruction is bogus. All parts of my order were too large. Instead, add only 1 - 2 inches MAX to your measurements. Your best bet would be to order, then email them with your exact measurements and hopefully someone will reply and help you. Getting in touch with the staff can be a challenge. I tried contacting them but apparently my email got lost (happens) and I had to escalate to a Paypal claim before I was finally contacted. Sent me shoes tarnished with ink spots, claimed I didn’t include the tag in the box I sent them for return. Stuck with shoes that don’t fit, multiple shipping costs, and ruined with ink that should have constituted a return no questions asked. They actually told me to try to resell them as though they aren’t ruined by ink - that was extremely insulting. Will do all I can to caution fencers at my club, online, and at tournaments against doing business with this dealer.
Slow customer service. Felt like pulling teeth to get an issue resolved.
