This shop is a treasure yo have in Ames. Extremely knowledgeable. Lots of parts/keys/locks/extras in stock. Made some, long lost, new keys for my classic car. Had them cut right away and we're able to fix an issue with the locks caused by sitting for 40 some years. Prices very reasonable. Highly recommend them. Thanks guys

Have tried to order multiple keys and was told it takes a week to get them in. My information is taken down on a post it note and after a week no call back. So I ordered my own key online and went back he cut it for free. Perfect!! But he didn’t have the programmer in the office so I set up an appointment for the following day. Showed up 30 min early at 9:30, went to the door and it was locked. So I waited and an employee pulled in went inside. I went back to the door and it was still locked. As they were coming back out roughly 30 min later I saw them interacting with someone else inside and as the employee walked out locked the door behind them. No acknowledgment from anyone and the door was locked the entire time I was there roughly 45 min to an hour. Horrible experience and customer

I lost my only motorcycle key (but had the code to get a new one) and Ames Lock and Security were able to make me a new one within 15 minutes of calling. He didn't have enough blanks to make spares, so I paid for two more that he'd make when the blanks came in. Unfortunately the key was too short (not his fault, the book specified the wrong key - it worked in the gas tank and rear seat but not the ignition). I went back, described what happened, he found a blank that would work and cut me 3 new keys, no extra charge. Super pleasant to deal with. You might have a hard time getting them on the phone, but just stop in person if you can. Super nice, super cheap, super accommodating.
