Our neighborhood lost a giant today - the 100 year old American Elm on Carlton Place had developed a huge crack, and the city foresters concluded it was at risk of major collapse and could not be saved. The City entrusted Dustin and the Blue River crew to safely disassemble the old girl. They came with a bucket truck and a 100ft crane. Trunk by trunk, a climber rode the crane hook up into the sky, landed in the tree to rig a safe hoist, and conducted the sawyer in the bucket and crane rig operator to lift huge chunks away. Doing this safely was no small thing - the tree canopy spanned over 50 feet outward from its center, overhung a house and power lines, and wove into the surrounding canopy. If you care about your trees (and wallet), you should hire these guys. I moved to a property on the border of Longmont a few years ago with many massive 70’+ high old growth Austree Willow trees around the back that were unsightly and actually scary from the decades of unmanaged overhanging growth.
