Burgin and Brown Conservation of Paintings

Eighty-five years ago, my parents were given a wedding present by a distant cousin who was an accomplished copyist of fine art. Given my father's taste in painting, something that owed to his education in Europe, the copyist, Angele Kahyan, took two celebrated paintings from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, sought authorization to reproduce them, and designated them as the wedding gift. They were Leon Bonnat's Roman Girl at a Fountain, and Francesco Guardi's Fantastic Landscape. Ironically, the Guardi canvas' shape and dimensions were probably intended for an arched architectural surround of some sort and were far too large to fit in our New York City apartment. So the copyist cleverly isolated the center section of the work, cropped it to a rectangular perspective, and depicted that. Thes

This painting had been in our family for many years, we knew nothing about it except it was extremely dirty and had several tears in the canvas. The frame had cracks and chips. As you can see from the photos, Heather used her knowledge and skill to transform the painting and frame to its original beauty. She also uncovered the date of 1882 and initials in the corner. We don’t know the identity of the artist but Heather gave us some extremely interesting facts about the composition and perhaps the setting. She also informed us that the painting was hung very close to a wood burning fireplace for many years. If you are in need of a restoration artist, I highly recommend Heather. I have nothing but good things to say about these restorers. Not only did they do a beautiful job repairing and cleaning my 100 year old paining so the colors pop, but the frame was repaired PERFECTLY! It was a pleasure working with these restorers, Ms. Brown is interesting and fun, and she takes before, during, and after photos of the restoration. She also shows exactly what she is using to clean and restore the painting and weI will use Burgin and Brown again.

I had 2 family oil portrait paintings done over a hundred years ago - they were victims of 50 years in a house with 2 smokers. Both were yellowed and had some damage.
