Chapel Hill Street Parking Garage

Entered the garage at about 7:30 on a Wednesday. Half of all the parking spots were roped off on the inside of the deck. Perfectly good spots. There were several other cars circling up and down from the artificial supply decrease. No construction or any signs indicating why HALF of the spots were roped off. Pretty ridiculous

Wheelchair and handicap van user. I parked here and needed the Durham HEART team to get me back to my own handicap ramp van parked on the 3rd level due to life-threatening health issues while out in public attending Legal Eagle. Unfortunately, the garage is so "short" that HEART's newer but standard handicap ramp van hit the height bar and the HEART team's van was damaged, costing the city at least hundreds of dollars and making it impossible for them to access Level 2 or 3. (My van is old and "short" due to age.) Required nearly 10 people to get me back to my van and apt and several hours. I think the height is 6ft 7in. Good luck anyone with a standard but larger vehicle!! And Durham should remove the "handicap accessible" wheelchair symbol if they can't meet standards! I'm afraid to park

PATRON BEWARE, PATRON BEWARE - DECEIVING SIGN, RUDE EMPLOYEES - sign says rates are 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM, Free Parking after 7 PM (but doesn't state end time). Reasonable to think you can exit the garage BEFORE 8 AM, no charge. WRONG!!!! I left the garage around 7:30 AM. The gates were down. It's not 8AM yet. I drove to the gate thinking it would auto-open. Nope. Cashier booth was empty and appeared closed. I saw an attendant walking around. I asked for help. He said "you have to exit the garage before 7AM to be free." I said "sign says rates are 8AM-7PM, it's not 8AM yet". He said "You have to pay, where's your ticket?" I said "I have no ticket, they don't give you a ticket after 7PM." He said "then you have to pay the lost ticket rate, $8 dollars." I showed him the picture of

Parking was free on the weekend. That was great for us, especially since the parking is so close to downtown activities and dining. We enjoyed our visit.
