Charlotte Sabers Fencing Academy

Fantastic Fencing Academy! Both of my boys are happy to be with Charlotte Sabers! They enjoy every training and can’t wait until the next one. They used to fence years ago but lost interest — until we found this academy. The coach is excellent, motivating, and truly knows how to inspire kids. Now they can’t wait to learn, improve, and take part in competitions. Highly recommend Charlotte Sabers to anyone looking for quality fencing training and a great atmosphere!

Our family had been looking for a sport all three of our children could participate in together and actually enjoy. Turns out, fencing was apparently it! Even my youngest (who doesn’t enjoy anything sporty) can’t wait to go to practice. Boris is very knowledgeable and makes the sport fun! And with his flexible schedule, we’re able to make it work with our other sports.

As a former competitive saber fencer in NY, I was thrilled to learn that Boris was coaching in Matthews, NC, where my family and I now live. Boris is an extremely knowledgeable, well-respected and seasoned coach, who truly understands how to bring a child up through a sport - from a foundational to competitive level. He strikes the perfect balance of creating a fun, yet structured, environment, with an emphasis on sportsmanship, discipline and tradition. He is very patient and is a master at getting his students to keep their focus. I am looking forward to watching my son develop and grow not just athletically, but also socially and emotionally, under his tutelage.

The 2025 competition season is nearing its end, marked by both success and personal growth for my son, Robert. We are grateful for the expert guidance of Coach Boris Hurgin and the team spirit at Charlotte Saber Fencing. I highly recommend this academy!

Great place for kids to learn world class saber fencing located right in Matthews. My kids have lots of fun with the sport and have made new friends. They even have done some local competitions which really has taught them about teamwork , responsibility and goal setting. Great lessons for life!
