Don Marcum's Pool Care

We have used Don Marcum to close our pool the past three years and have seen an increase in their closing costs even though the job itself hasn't changed. It started at $280 in 2023, $360 in 2024 and then this year $576!! Needless to say, I am disgusted at the $216 increase and will be finding someone else to close my pool!

Do not use this company. In our first season of basic pool maintenance, they cracked the tile that covers our skimmer baskets, broke the doorknob to the pool storage closet in half, and spilled blue epoxy on our driveway that left a permanent stain. It would almost be comical how many issues we have if it hadn’t resulted in actual property damage. Repairs were attempted but the tile cover is not properly affixed anymore and the opening they drilled is the wrong size. (And this is after I did the work myself to source a new tile from the manufacturer.) I’ve requested a call from the owner twice after this final epoxy incident, both times I’ve been told he’s on vacation and will call back. Surprise: I never received a call back. Called in May to ask if we could have someone out to look at a small leak in our pump motor. Was told it may be a few weeks. No calls, no one comes out. Called a few days before Memorial Day because it had been several weeks, and was told they'd be out right after the holiday. Again, no calls and no one comes out. We ended up having someone else look at it. They JUST called today (July 12th, a full 2 months later) and asked if we still need them. Don't know very many people who would still give them their business. I would avoid them at all costs!

Great pool care company. They install and maintain pools, but they also are great at custom pool covers and automatic covers. I have an automatic cover which was in serious disrepair and it worked perfectly after they’ve been out to work on it. No more scooping leaves out of the pool when you have, the auto cover. Just turn the key and open the pool. Very safe for kids and pets. Zero chance anyone can fall in accidentally when it’s closed.

I had the company open our pool the last day of April. I tested the water 3 days after they added salt and other chemicals. I tested the water and the level of the salt was very high on my strips so I took a sample of the water to Leslie’s pool and the level was 4300 and after letting out 6 inches of water, refilling the water my levels are still at 4000 after getting it tested again. I know that high levels of salt can damage your generator cells. I called Marcum’s after the first test and they pretty much said that it would be fine. I wanted to see why they added so much salt. I called a second time on the 13th of may after testing the water at Leslie’s pool. I hired them to open and add correct amount of chemicals, we shouldn’t be draining, using 8 hours of electricity and refilling
