The Easter Brothers - Russell, James, and Ed Easter - were born and raised in Mount Airy in the early 1930s. They were known for traditional gospel music with overtones of country and bluegrass. The band started in the mid-1950s with brothers Russell on banjo, James on guitar, and Edd on mandolin. The marker reads, "The legendary Easter Brothers grew up here in Mount Airy, NC. their earliest musical influence was inspired by their mother and her "clawhammer" style banjo picking. Brothers Ed and Russell formed the Easter Brothers group in 1953 and were joined by their brother James in 1956. The brothers wrote over 400 songs.
