Flat Rock Overlook was a highlight of our Blue Ridge day. We lucked out and had the summit slab to ourselves for about 30–40 minutes and loved every minute—wide views over Linville Valley with Grandfather Mountain on the horizon. The hike itself is easy and short (gentle grade), perfect for a quick stop at sunrise or late afternoon. Areas to improve: trail marking. There are multiple side paths where people have cut off-trail, and a few extra blazes or signs would help first-timers stick to the main route.
So serene, peaceful, and wonderful. I was by myself, and I was able to meditate at the overlook while the clouds rolled down from the mountain. It was such a tranquil experience and a very beautiful hike.
