FlatRate Moving

Flat Rate Movers threw out two of my antiques—and then behaved as if it were no big deal. In writing, they admitted that during a warehouse “clean-up,” my belongings were “mistakenly associated” with trash and disposed of. What they threw out were not old boxes or worn-out furniture. They were: • An 18th-century hand-carved walnut chair with a rush seat
• A bamboo and brass floor lamp with a hand-woven shade They also broke two other antique pieces during the first move: a carved Italian mirror frame and a bookcase cornice. Their solution? A mere $1,000 for everything—an insulting amount that doesn’t remotely reflect the value of the items they destroyed. Flat Rate’s attitude was essentially: you didn’t buy extra insurance, so we can toss your property without consequences.

We used flatrate to move to a new apartment last month. The mover were awesome. Not a scratch on any of our furniture. Mike did a great job setting the whole move up and it went super smoothly. The communication was great and we knew exactly where everything was during the move.

We hope we can save others from having the nightmare experience we had with Flatrate. Ours was a three step move. Out of one house, into their storage facility and then to Colorado. We have paid this company almost 30k. When the truck arrived in Colorado we were told they couldn’t fit all of our things on the truck so it was left behind in Maryland. We never received any warning in advance. So needless to say we were missing bed frames, bolts for bed frames we had were missing not to mention the extensive damage to our furniture. We were lied to about the storage facility. It was not climate controlled. Boxes were crushed as if exposed to water. Liquid damage to wood. We asked when they would be delivering the rest of our furniture. At first we were told within a week. Never happened. Alm
