We almost went right passed this point but it's the only one so you'll end up turning around anyways. It does have a line of concrete blocks, I imagine it's because so many people have driven into the field yonder. If the blocks weren't there it'd be the perfect place to park your car and star gaze in your truck. The space before the blocks will fit about 6 or 7 cars, if they all park correctly. It is so peaceful here and the field has the best most optimal views! Beware of vicious mosquitoes though, they are no joke! The sky however is very clear and the supermoon was beautiful. The field is a great place to set your horoscopes down and do a time-lapse. Also it is a great spot to lay down a blanket or Lei to enjoy the night sky. The sky is wide and vast and the stars are clear as well. The
This is an open space by the side of the road. About an hour away from the state capital, a great location to watch the sky. We were there on the day forecasted as peak activity and an ideal day to watch the perseid shower. With the moon completely gone after 12, it was a great meteor fishing experience. Even got lucky with capturing a streak (picture attached). Close to 10 cars were parked including a couple of them double parked. Very little light pollution, plus light from the vehicles getting to this location and passing through. The weather was ideal; just needed a light jacket. There weren't any mosquitos or other insects the night we were there - at least i didn't know if something crawled over me ;) With so many families, the place felt quite safe, but watch out if you're compl
2023.08.13 The second time to be here, surprisingly I saw a lot of people stay to watch the sky and the meteor. It was too cloudy at that night only have a half hour window for clear sky but still wonderful!
Great location not too far from Sacramento to get near complete darkness. Went to see the Perseids meteor shower and got quite a show. There were more people than expected and we couldn't stop folks from breaking the darkness with their car lights as they arrived but it was still worth it.
Great place for stargazing and astrophotography. There was plenty of space to set up my 8" dobsonian telescope. The parking area has space for 5-6 cars max, with a huge open space on the other side of a low concrete barrier. Hopping over the barrier into the observation area is easy, just something to be aware of if you're bringing equipment. It was a little spooky at night, but there were some other people there, and the road still had some light traffic.
