Joey Wildasin Slate Roofing

So let's start this off with some notes. I have been in the maintenance, contacting business for years. I can cut a tree down mill that Lumber and build a house from it. Joey has preformed excellent. I'm not a fan of doing slate roofs, and when time came to do my own personal slate roof repairs I'd figure I would shop around. The price Joey quoted seem very fair for the work to be done. And there is where the normality of the situation goes away. Joey was responsive and quick with a quote and communicating with my wife. I work 73hrs a week, and he took the time to explain everything to her. His craftsmanship was exceptional. I'm not speaking as a consumer, I'm 100% serious when I say he did an outstanding job. I cannot speak highly enough of Joey and his crew. They're genuinely good people and expert level slate roofers. Joey traveled to a prospective home purchase in Baltimore City and inspected it the very day I contacted him. He provided excellent insight into the 133 year old peach bottom roof we ultimately purchased based on his inspection and estimate. He gave us an estimate that I believe was fair and comprehensive. Once work began Joey and his crew worked diligently through the summer heat (weather & rain permitting) to provide a finished product that I am very proud to own. Both chimneys, both the one removed and the one repointed, were both massive undertakings, but they accomplished it with no problems. Would not recommend. Had two inspectors comes and tell me between 20-25 tiles needed to be replaced. Before even getting on my roof he says the whole thing needs to be replaced! Then when he gets up there he starts taking a pick axe to my chimney. In what world do you hack away at something during a consultation?? Then got quoted the famous 70k price. Go somewhere else. Confrontational, rude, and trying to get a quick buck. I have the right person. I was the buyer of a home in April. This happened during my inspection.

Don’t let the positive reviews or the con man in Joey fool you. If I recall correctly he also told me that he put some positive reviews online (Note that two of the positive reviews have the same last name) to help build his business so don’t trust what you see out there. He will tell you stories about being a state wrestling champion to build your trust. He will tell you stories about how the prior roofers job quality is poor to convince you he is honest. He will tell you stories about being an “expert” witness for court cases to convince you of his qualifications. The bottom line is that he takes your money, cuts a ton of corners and then does net not stand behind his warranty or work product. My mom's house suffered storm damage; when I called contractors for estimates, Joey was the only one who actually answered. He came over and gave us an estimate the same day. Now that the work is complete, we're super satisfied. He took pictures before, during and after the work, and explained what needed to be done and why. Looking at the finished section, it blends in seamlessly with the surrounding undamaged roof. We would definitely use Joey and his folks again.
