Ken Mendonça Design

I worked with Ken in 2006 to design my garden in Ohio. The design brief was to simplify, unify, and enhance the garden. I got everything I asked for and more, and I was very happy with the results. With my overseas work commitments, I needed a garden that would not become a chore to maintain and that I could enjoy in my free time. Ken developed a plan that once completed made the garden easy to maintain and an enjoyable space to gather with my friends and family. The results were exactly as I hoped for and I continue to consult with him to this day in both Ohio and California.

We have worked with Ken since June 2006. Ken designed our garden in Hudson, Ohio. The landscaping had become overgrown, was a mismatch of different types of plants, and was not easy to manage with our professional commitments and schedules. Ken simplified the garden, which had to be very deer resistant, be able to tolerate the cold Ohio winters, and be easy to maintain. He combined plants into simplified groupings that made the garden more refined and peaceful to be in. He helped us select plants at the nurseries that were easy to maintain, and then precisely laid them out in the garden so that they complimented our house and the surrounding neighborhood. After multiple failed attempts to design my garden on just under an acre in Montgomery Texas, I reached out to Ken for help. Having known Ken for years, he only needed to ask a few questions to understand my goals for the garden. During the site visit, he pointed out the features that were working then he gave me several strategies to create an elegant and tailored woodland garden that was easy to maintain. He suggested that we create multiple gardens on my long narrow lot. This design element would make it easy to take a phased approach to implementation. He also recommended hearty and native plants (southeast Texas) that are now thriving in my garden. Technology made it easy to collaborate with him virtually as I implemented his strategies.
