Mr. Handyman of Grayslake and Glenview

After moving into our new home we decided to remove carpeting from the stairs. Which revealed that the stairs were made out of plywood. I hired Mr. Handyman to sand and paint the stairs. We wanted the bottom portion of the stairs painted white and a wood finish that would match the banister. The original quote was for $1750. The actual cost was $2300 and 2 days of work which yielded the distaster you see in the pictures. They wanted to come out for a 3rd day to "finish", which would have cost another $1100. The landings we're not even finished. The "Handyman's" solution was to to purchase more plywood, stain it and glue it to the landing though I'm not sure how he planned to cut all the little corners needed to fit said plywood. We had two experiences with Mr. Handyman…both were well done. The first was an exterior chimney board replacement on both sides of our home. It was well done and very competively priced..As a result, we told many friends about the price and results..The second was an outside brick replacement and screwing down several thresholds…the work was done well but we felt the price was way too high. The guys at Mr. Handyman did a great job on my house today. They patched two woodpecker holes in the wood siding on my house, choosing a patch material that not only closely matched the painted wood color so that re-painting wasn't even necessary, but that also contained a repellent to prevent future animal damage. They also noticed that my gutters were full of leaves and twigs and asked if I was interested in having those cleaned out as well, at the same time. Since I was already planning to call Mr. Handyman again for that very purpose, I was thrilled that they could handle that job right then and there. I needed an exhaust fan replaced in my bathroom. I called a number of companies but was not happy with them so I tried Mr. Handyman of Grayslake. I told the person what I needed done and they estimated between $600-700 plus supplies, which seemed reasonable. The tech, Rick, did a good job, cleaned up at the end of the day and was polite and professional. However, when he presented the bill it was almost twice what the estimate was, which was a BIG surprise. If you decide to use this company I recommend you have someone come look at the job because the over the phone estimate is useless.
