Ace Hardware in Christiansburg has one of the worst, most dishonest return policies I’ve ever dealt with — and that’s saying something. I purchased a Mr. Heater that was brand new, sealed, never used, never hooked up, still in the box. There was NO signage anywhere in the store saying winter items were non-returnable. In fact, my receipt clearly states a 30-day return policy. So imagine my surprise when I come back well within that window and I’m told, “Oh yeah, we have a new policy — no returns on winter items.” Oh? New policy? Funny how that policy exists only verbally, after you’ve already taken someone’s money. So here’s my question: If winter items can’t be returned, why even give me a receipt that says 30 days? Why not be honest upfront? Why not just put a sign on the door that sa

WOW! I don’t know that I could have more praise for this place. All of the staff that I interacted with were really friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable! I am a young woman who is about to be a first time home owner and I often feel overlooked or brushed off by other home improvement stores. I felt really valued here as a customer. Thank you to the assistant manager Don for hearing my goals and making helpful suggestions. He really took his time and I will be doing my business here now.

Bought salt at this ACE before the last storm at a normal price. Came back for this storm and the price was 100% higher for the exact same product. Doubling prices right before bad weather isn’t “supply and demand” — it’s price gouging. People need salt for safety, not convenience. Really disappointing to see a local store take advantage of customers when conditions get bad. I won’t be back.

Purchased a stihl ms 70 chainsaw. It was pre-assembled at the store. The sprocket clip was missing, causing the sprocket guiding the chain to come off, thus causing chain to come off. It took 3 hours of my husband's time to figure this out. He then had to go to another Stihl dealer to purchase the clip. A waste of his time and money. Get an employee who knows how to assemble products correctly.

Ace Hardware runs on overpriced items and a return policy that changes after you pay — receipts say one thing, reality says you’re stuck — which makes this place feel less like a hardware store and more like a customer trap. Avoid. Return policy seems to change in the winter? Strange.
