If you are a birder in Eastern NC this is a must stop. We came in January and saw many Tundra swans and snow geese. Also saw hawks, herons, kingfishers and even otters.
Such a tranquil and calm place surrounded by nature and water. Great place to observe tundra swans in the winter and migratory birds in spring and fall. Love to eat my bfast here :).
There's not a lot to observe in the summer - I'm sure there is when migration is going on. Will have to try to come back then. There is a port-a-potty located here.
Great place to photograph the snow geese and tundra swans. I can't stress enough how much you need to experience this area of the world.
It's falling apart / major lack of maintainance + trees in front of platform are ridiculously overgrown to the point where they obscure the view of any shoreline on the S. end of the lake. Calling it an 'observation platform' is a bit of an oxymoron ! 👎
