Smuggler Mountain Observation Deck

Do NOT try to drive up here unless you have high clearance and 4WD. We went about a third of the way up in our rental vehicle before reading some past Google reviews. The road is mainly for bikers and hikers. We parked at an opening along the road and hiked the rest of the way up. Not too bad of a hike but it’s all uphill from the trailhead. The view from the observation deck is stunning in Aspen season. Perfect to watch the sunset behind the mountains. Keep hiking further up the trails for even better sweeping sunset views!

Beautiful views from the top of Smuggler Mountain on the Observation Deck. Definitely worth the hike up the trail. You get great views of the whole of Aspen and the mountains behind. Trail is really well managed and, although it’s quite a climb is definitely worth doing.

Beautiful place to watch the sunset, not a vehicle intended road, I went a third of the way and there is a nice rest area, nice place to chill in the back of your car.

Great views,drive is narrow in places but easy 4wd. Hikers not like motor vehicles, but is legal. Fun trail.

We had a little hike here. It was nice but not as spectacular as I expected. I remember we saw some people jogging in the snow, but only women.
