Soapstone Werks

Had our kitchen counter tops done, came out awesome! Love the soapstone, they did a wonderful job. Wendy the owner is easy to work with, just went back today to buy another piece for the breakfast bar.

We were initially really impressed with Soapstone Werks. Wendy and her team were wonderful to work with to select our stone, fabricate and install. We were aware of the nature of soapstone and knew that it would scratch and wear more than other countertops, which I don't mind at all. We were told we would need to wax the countertops once a month for the first 6 months and then it should be a very occasional thing to freshen them up. This has definitely not been the case. The countertops are now about 3 years old and they have worn horribly. We have to wax them every week or 2 and they look great for a couple days but if we set anything wet on the counter it almost immediately leeches all the color out and everything scratches. More than a sink, we have a new piece of art! Soapstone Werks created a custom sized sink for our 100+ year old house. It's a beautiful addition to a very small kitchen, which has only enhanced our love of the space. Wendy went the extra mile to find add a beautiful hand crafted tile to the front facia of the sink which pulls in all of the colors of the kitchen. These folks are such professionals and paid attention to the extra details. This is the kind of service you get when working with local artists that are passionate about their work. And now we are passionate about their work as well.

We had a disappointing (and what will be expensive) experience with Soapstone Werks. They sold and fabricated a slab for our 9x4 kitchen island with a blemish that covers about a 1/5th of the material. They sent us a photo before purchase where the blemish was difficult to detect. They sold and cut the stone without any warning. The owner did come take a look at it initially, but they told us it would go away with oiling. Oil only made the blemish worse, as it became pronounced. We've been trying to contact Soapstone Werks for 6 months with no response. We thought they may have gone out of business, but based on their voicemail greeting, they are still operating. I can not tell you how much I love our quartzite kitchen counters & soapstone sink! Wendy & Greg payed attention to all the tiny details (from slab selection to layout) and created exactly what we wanted. I had no idea exactly how beautiful the mitered edge of the bar top/ backsplash would be - it’s incredible! So sleek & modern! Every edge is finished beautifully. And if you’re on the fence about a soapstone sink - go for it! I didn’t know it was possible to love a kitchen sink - but I do! Soapstone colors are so unique & different but I wanted a nice plain gray with a subtle glimmer. They specially chose the pieces, custom made it according to the size we wanted & it’s beautiful - exactly what I hoped for.
