On a highway-speed road, that’s not just careless—it’s illegal. New Jersey law is clear. Under NJDOT standards and the MUTCD (the national traffic control manual that NJ follows), any roadside work zone must have: Advance warning signs like “Road Work Ahead” set up far before the work area. Second day in a row I’ve had to deal with this. I already reached out to the DWP, and I’ll be reporting it further since it’s obvious this isn’t sinking in. 565 is a busy road, and the white line marks the end of the roadway. If you are parked past that line, you are in the road. That is not allowed. If you insist on working beyond the shoulder, you need to follow local traffic control guidelines — that means setting up a MUTCD-compliant traffic control plan, such as a 107 or 108 pattern, and hiring a flagger. Timber Tailors worked with our regular tree service to provide a crane for a tree removal. In spite of a serious mechanical issue with their vehicle, they still showed up and got the job done. The gentleman who operated the crane was highly skilled. He had to lift the trunk up and out from its position between two powerlines; he succeeded without any damage to the lines. We are very happy with Timber Tailors and would be glad to have them work on our property again.

My goodness, don’t call them if you are also looking for other quotes at the same time. I made calls at the beginning of the work week, and they were the only ones who did not call back the same day. I stayed local and got three quotes later in the day, and chose another company that met my needs. They called at least twice a day for four days straight, leaving voicemails asking for information. The tipping point was when someone actually came to my location at the end of the week in person asking about the now newly cut down tree. Don’t be surprised if you will be harassed for a couple days and someone arrived at your home unannounced if you don’t contact them back, because they -want- your business.
