While the completed work was done well, it was really difficult to get this company to do what they committed to. We met with VCS in Fall of 2024 and accepted their bid to treat buckthorn and bittersweet on our property. The work was scheduled for 2025. When this year arrives, we start emailing and calling the company to complete the work and after months of non-responses they finally arrive. The technician hemmed and hawed about how the bid was unrealistic, making sure to talk my ear off about all of the reasons why his job is very difficult. I made it clear that our only priority was meeting our NRCS contract. They did one day of work, committed to providing a follow-up quote for the remainder of the work, then ghosted us. Probably one of the most conscientious, skilled and knowledgeable vegetation management companies in the region. VCS employees have shown themselves to be capable of applying great precision and selectivity to difficult problems, particularly difficult invasive plant problems. They match their techniques to the problem at hand as well as to the desires of the customer to achieve the required outcome. I cannot recommend them highly enough for invasive plant control. Another point in their favor is the fact that they are consulted by both federal and state wildlife and conservation organizations, both in the planning and execution of their invasive plant management programs, throughout New England.

Two employees of the corporate renters of the property involved informed me on August 30, 2016, that this company recently sprayed an area behind the old mills along West River Street in Orange, MA. I assume it was to treat the invasive knapweed growing in that area, a wild flower bees love. In killing the knapweed, EVERY OTHER PLANT growing there was also killed. That entire expanse is now dead. This includes the rarely seen saxifrage, which I have never seen anywhere else. I was also surprised that a section of the bank of the Millers River would be sprayed. What used to be a beautiful walk along a road bordered by a variety of plants and wild flowers, including, yes, an invasive species, is now all dead and burnt looking, with no more bees there. Sad. The killing is indiscriminate. And
