Wallace Parking Deck

This is a fairly affordable parking area especially if you are a student and don't want the hassle of looking for last minute parking before class or are running late. Behind Franklin Street so walking distance to most of the shops on that strip and around. It's a 10ish-15 minute walk to The Pit depending on your hustle. About $13 for 9 hours (full day of classes) of parking. Be mindful of darker corners and stairwells, they are not always let's say sanitary. I'm not sure if there's a camera/security system but there should be. Large homeless population between this and the post office, I often get approached if I go down Amber Alley so going around by the pencil mural tends to work better for me and I feel more at ease. Having a student discount would be nice, the parking fees add up quic

I had a fine experience here however I parked here on a weekday evening during summer. I appreciate the sign stating how many parking spaces there are. Parking was pretty cheap as we stayed out past 8pm which makes the parking free. I don't know how it is to park here during the day while UNC is in session though. 4 stars for the smaller parking spaces but at least they are at an angle. Pictured with this review is artwork on the side of the structure. I know it is not that helpful but at least it is mildly interesting.

The parking garage is in a great location but it has one huge caveat, if you back up to get your receipt the arm will close and you'll be stuck, god forbid your stuck after 6 pm because hitting the call button does nothing and looking on the website is equally fruitless. If this happens to you, ask someone to stop just after paying, the arm will no close on a car as long as it's there, pull your car around close to the first cars bumper and drive out together to get out.

The spaces are a little close together for my taste. Carolina really needs to offer more parking more affordably. I don't understand why local businesses who are closed at night and on weekends don't allow you to park in their parking lots for free. The town and the university need to support each other.

Chapel Hill needs to figure something better out with parking. The fact that I pay $10 or more every single day as an employee on Franklin st is cringeworthy. Town should be more accommodating for the employees that help keep it running.
