I am new to the area, i.e., Edgewood, MD [Harford County]. As a result. I am reliant on almost blind-trust to find local contractors. In this case, I used a coupon that came in the ValPak envelope that came in the mail to 'Resident.' I found 'A Step in Time' [from Bowie] there. The coupon showed an excellent price for an initial inspection and estimate for sweeping. I know I needed additional repairs necessary to bring the fireplace up to code; make it functional; and, more importantly, to make it safe to operate. I figured that since they were advertising in Harford County, despite headquartered in Bowie, that they were prepared to accommodate the distance. I was right. Michael and his crew are truly experts in their craft and wonderful to work with. Mike is a straight shooter which I appreciate very much. He won't recommend work you don't need and he gives a very fair price. Don't look further if you need chimney or masonry work. Mike is also connected to some great home improvement generalists, so you can add other little projects to your chimney scope.

A Step in Time MD provides the kind of service that is hard to find these days. I first met Mike the owner four years ago, and his professionalism and attention to detail stood out so much that I kept him in mind all this time. When I finally called him back recently, not only did he remember me, but his office manager tracked down my old invoice and they honored the exact same price they quoted me four years ago! I needed my chimney swept and my dryer vents cleaned out. I called A Step In Time Maryland and they were able to come right out to me and gave me such a fair price that I booked them right away! Michael was a true professional and assured me I’d be in great hands! After the quoted price, I called back to make the official appointment and they scheduled me a time just a couple days later. So happy and can’t say enough good thing about A Step In Time Maryland and I plan to use them every year for my vent cleanings and cleaning my chimney!

I do not recommend this company. 12/08/25 having done an inspection in 5 minutes. having come to inspect the fireplace, not having looked carefully, just opened the fireplace door. not having gotten the ladder out of the truck. saying that you need to take the curtains off the windows and leave. and then sending after 20 minutes the sum of $3200 taken from the sky. I do not recommend this company.
