Abundant Design

Abundant Design fixed a retaining wall and installed a rain garden for me in 2023 and added to it in 2024. This year, a tree fell on my house, and Jeff and crew were amazing in checking up on the yard immediately and putting my rain garden, retaining wall, and fence back together. The rain garden has been one of my favorite purchases, and I'm so excited to see it bounce back next year. Photos are from spring before the tree fell, and after repairs were completed.

We found Jeff through the Des Moines Rehabbers group. Once we contacted him, we realized he had done work all around Des Moines that we loved (including at Drake!). Jeff was great to work with. He designed and created the yard of our dreams. We had him plan our front and backyard, and he and his crew removed sod and planted all our new plants. They also took our vision of a dry bed for rainwater and made it better than we could have imagined. He included fruit trees, edible and beneficial plants and flowers, built a new vegetable garden, reworked our old raised bed gardens, and created a space we finally want to be outside in and enjoy. Jeff/Abundant Design did a fantastic job on water/rain problems during the big rains. We were getting water in the basement and water pooling on the south side of our house. Jeff explained everything they were going to do to fix it. It was done to the highest standards, and the crew was fantastic. They were knowledgeable and addressed all questions and concerns. The project was completed on time and I could not ask for better results. We would like to thank you and your crew for all your hard work. We have worked with Jeff on several projects over the last five years. The largest project spans the entire length of our backyard. The landscaping manages quite a bit of water and is also beautiful and easy to maintain. He was back this week to repair a portion of the landscaping that was damaged by a city project. He was more than willing to come back to our property multiple times over the last year as we worked through the process of dealing with the city and getting repairs covered. We look forward to working with Jeff again as future projects arise.

We recently had some rain runoff issues in our backyard between our house and neighbors, that were causing erosion and puddling in all the wrong places. After researching drainage solutions, it was decided on to go with a dry river bed. The installation was straightforward, and we appreciated how Jeff and his crew customized it with different rocks, stones, and even a few drought-tolerant plants along the edges. It’s low maintenance, eco-friendly, and solved the drainage problem without the need for unsightly pipes or trenches. Highly recommend Abundant Design to anyone dealing with similar runoff issues. It’s functional, attractive, and adds character to the yard—win-win!
