His team scheduled weekly update meetings keeping us in the know as to whether or not we were on schedule and whether or not there were any delays. Before the renovation we had great space with tall ceilings; however, our cabinetry was short, cheap and not easily accessible. Appliances were outdated, sink was too narrow, the kitchen island was ugly, and our floors were dark and depressing. 😔 We needed a kitchen reboot - quickly! Joe Bertola and his crew (notably, Victor, Wellington and Marco) recently completed a beautiful renovation of my condominium kitchen. From initial demolition, through obtaining permits, through the construction process and checking on completion, they and their trades were always on time, respectful of my property, detail-oriented, and always left my place clean at the end of each day. Not only did they take care in the construction aspects, but -- the mark of a good contractor-- if there was a glitch or problem, they were right there with a solution, including with an emergency on a Saturday morning! Bertola Custom homes completely rehabbed my condo. The quality of the work was fine, the communication middling, the value subpar. The proprietor is a very savvy salesman who knows how to make his services seem upscale and worth the premium prices. In my experience, there was nothing about the work that merited the difference in price between Bertola and other experienced contractors. He steered me toward much more expensive options than I needed and his labor costs were off the charts. I was reminded of this 7 years after the original work when I invited him to submit a bid for a relatively small job, retiling a couple of small bathroom floors that were not part of the original renovation.
