CBS Locksmith

I used to come here for key copies without any issues, but my recent experience was disappointing. They are not upfront about the best and least expensive fixes at all. They add new charges at every step before making it clear. I had a key break in an unlocked door and went in person to ask for help removing it and possibly upgrading to a deadbolt. I was told the service would be $140, and they'd check on the cost of the deadbolt while getting started. After paying $140 for the visit and key removal, I was told the key was the problem—even though all my locks use the same key. I assumed they were right and agreed to proceed (I later confirmed that the lock is in fact the same as all my other doors, so I do have several spares). I was given three new options: pay $35+ for a new key, $190

Had a defective Yale mortise lock. Took parts to CBS and they showed me the problem, made the repair with a few new parts and then advised how to carefully reinstall the repaired items. They are not at 1592 3rd. They moved to 1636 about a block North on 3rd. I had to call them to find store. Glad I found them!

Radislav did a GREAT job for me today and his prices were VERY reasonable !! He cut 2 Mul-t-lock keys + 1 Medeco and I purchased one keychain for $73.22 !! The mul-t-lock key copies were $25 each, the Medeco was $12.50 and the keychain was $4.75. All in all quite reasonable and I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM and the store !!!

Expensive but good. I lost my keys around 10 PM on a Saturday night, and called CBS because they’re also on the Upper East Side. They arrived in about a half hour, and the guy was quick and efficient and professional. However, for 5 minutes of work and a $40 new lock (Mortise cylinder 7185SC1-03-KD), he charged me $350, and wouldn’t take a credit card. When I told him I didn’t carry $350 in cash, he insisted I go to the ATM to get it. So, they are kind of pricey, and won’t take credit after hours, but the work was well done.

The locksmith service is a scam! Our lock broke and they quoted $125 when we called, and then tried to get $985!!! It was maybe 30 seconds of work. Price and practices are crazy, don’t use them
