I recieved a Paint Your Pet class as a birthday gift and my boyfriend and I were able to each select an image that we loved to paint. Neither of us are experienced artists but David was very helpful in giving us all the guidance we needed. It was nice not to start with a blank canvas but with a base color and pencil sketch of the image we sent him. And then he shared a lot of helpful tips and tricks to get us started, stepped in to help us with a trickey spots, and was incredibly felxible by allowing us to come back for a second session when we ran out of energy after working with him for hours. My wife bought us a Paint and Sip session for my birthday. The studio is spacious with plentiful natural light. David was a superb and patient instructor. He let us select our images beforehand and had them roughly pencil sketched on the canvases and ready to go when we arrived. This was no simple "paint by numbers" type class. He taught us how to mix our colors and the brush techniques we needed to get the best results for the pictures we had chosen. He even coached us on some alternative/more advanced techniques to create interesting effects to match our source images, such as adding texture/physical depth, and drips/spatters. I bought a paint your pet session for my mom for Christmas and it was an amazing gift! We went to the studio and David had sketched out our dogs in pencil from the photos that I had sent him. We ended up splitting it into three sessions total and each session was so fun! It was very go at your own pace and David stepped in and helped us with the small details when we needed it! My friends and I decided a couple of weeks ago that we wanted to do a Friday night paint-and-sip in the Syracuse area. We happened to find The Gear Factory and Chalking About Stein online. When we arrived at the building Dave greeted us at the door and showed us around the building. I had always passed by The Gear Factory but never realized what a unique space it is for local artists! The studio that we worked in had big beautiful windows that overlooked Syracuse. Dave was a wonderful teacher. He is so kind and accommodating. At no point during our class did we feel rushed and Dave’s feedback was super helpful. By the end we were all very happy with the way our pieces turned out.
