We suffered exactly EVERYTHING that Rebecca posted above, and since yesterday our gas supply has been cut off without ANY possibility of payment by phone or online, as we faithfully used to do. We are in a period of extreme cold and there is no consideration, not even for the laws that prohibit and guarantee us protection against having our supply cut off during the period covered, according to State of Maine law. One of the worst experiences I've ever had was trying to make a payment, as we routinely did with our previous company. Besides receiving NO information whatsoever that we were changing companies, contracts, or anything else, we now have to accept being without gas because they decided not to accept the payment, as was customary done. As AFC, they were almost too good--showing up and filling our home and barn propane more than we wanted. We had to ask them to stop coming until we requested them. Now, as DRC, we couldn't get someone out here if our lives depended on it--which they luckily don't yet, because we also have a wood stove, but not much wood left. It's also a good thing we used Labor Day sales to buy an electric oven, since we couldn't use the propane one any more. We haven't had propane since SUMMER 2025. My husband finally started calling in October (as it got colder), telling them we need our giant tanks moved to a new location and re-hooked up. They will "send someone when they're in the area." Since AFC changed to Dead River, their customer service has really gone downhill. Previously we had a payment arrangement with AFC from our last fill up this past winter, which we have paid on faithfully every week. Last week we received a very abrupt, demanding phone call from Kathleen that we needed to pay the remaining balance ASAP. They have also begun taking twice the agreed amount in payment. We spoke this morning with our bank and were approved for a home heating loan and just needed an estimate for annual service, a copy of the remaining balance and estimate to fill the tank (which is still 3/4 full) and then everything would be current. Upon calling and speaking to Katie we were told that we could not get an estimate at all until the balance was paid off, even upon explaining that
AFC-Augusta is one of the only companies that service the area where our camp is. Their prices are fair and they’re quick to respond. We got ourselves into a pickle today where we ran out of propane (heat and hot water) on the first day of a month long booking. I called and talked to a lady Named Lynn and explained my situation. She was polite and we had a delivery within a couple hours. I know they may not always have the capacity to fulfill an urgent request so promptly but so far they are treating us well. Thank you!
I give AFC one star because I have to in order to place a comment. I'm not impressed with the service. I've has several run ins with them that were not good. They love to over charge on service. I bought a modine heaters and I got a quote for labor and install that was ridiculous. I installed it myself in under half the time they quoted and had rest done by a pro. All said n done I spent 500.00 and AFC quoted me over 6K for a garage heater! As a far as the fuel for my home goes I've asked for 100 gallon deliveries twice and they fill my tank. Not what I asked for! I've even tried to contact the manager a few times but no reply after 7 days. I'm holding out on paying my last delivery and only going to pay what I asked for 100gallons nothing over. Glad the heating season is almost over Nex
