Highland Paving

River Road in Wilmington, NC from Saunders Rd to Carolina Beach. Today, Monday October 26th at 9:00 AM, they were ripping up the solid white line (biking line) with a convoy of 6 trucks without a flagman for people to safely pass. They were tearing it up the lines; scattering debris all over the road after MONTHS of slowing down traffic, detouring motorists and making people wait. I am a cyclist and I am BEYOND upset with what they did today. The rocks and grit on the tires, the frame dents and components is financially unreal. WHO MESSED UP???? I don't recommend these folks it "appears" someone miscalculated the lane distances from the bike lane and they are repaving and repainting AGAIN. Folks this is NOT professional and not OK! Where to begin? Repaving River Road between Sanders and Carolina Beach has been a nightmare. Each step has taken weeks longer than it would anywhere else. Over a week to paint lines? Starting at one place, working on another random place. ZERO notice to residents of when anything is happening. I was held up in one spot just a hundred feet from the Halyburton/school entrance for over 20 minutes today at 8:15am and this is not the first time. Line of cars behind me went for over a mile and this was to pave part of a 50 ft TURN LANE. Unprofessional and unnecessary. The entirety of S College Road has been paved within three days working overnight, absolutely no excuse for this.

I'm not sure who's running the show with the crew that is working on River road in Wilmington, North Carolina, but it is the worst display of traffic control and planning I've ever seen from a road crew. I'm not sure who decided it would be a good idea to start work during the 8:00 Rush hour in front of a school system where there's an elementary, middle, and high school all in the same area. I've seen multiple school buses stopped in this line of traffic and I'm sure that it is giving anxiety to the kids that they're going to be late for class. Poor planning all together 9-17-25 Here we are another morning 8:00 and they've got the entrance to where three schools are blocked and are screwing up traffic and school buses. Unbelievable!

Not sure how these guys are still operating business, was on River Road today. It was an absolute crap show. They didn’t have road signs you’re supposed to have a sign person on both ends of the construction, that has stop signs and walkie-talkies. If there was an emergency and a vehicle needed to get through, that would’ve not been possible. I guess the state picks the lowest bidder still

Highland Paving has been working in the area for three days now, and their traffic control is an absolute disaster. They are not directing traffic properly, leading to massive backups and unnecessary delays. It’s clear they have no regard for efficient flow or public convenience. If you’re driving through this area, expect frustration and a complete lack of organization. They need to step up their game and handle traffic control professionally!
