My girlfriend and I needed an egress window put in the basement for a bedroom. We found H&R at the Duluth home show and figured we’d sign up for a quote. They came out and quoted us $12,600. Just for an egress window. We ended up cancelling but called back with some additional work we wanted an estimate for. They scheduled a time to come back out for another estimate. We wanted some framing, drywall and flooring for a 12x10 room. The total he priced us was $55,000. I thought this was ridiculous. We decided just to do the window first and maybe call back with the additional work later. Financing was signed and everything. They said they would call back to schedule the window install. The boss calls back and says they won’t do business with us because we cancelled the first time with them. T

What started out as a "free estimate" turned into a "full commitment" the first time out. 10 phone calls to his boss and 2.5 hours later, here are the numbers he says. I can take half down today to get you on the schedule. No breakdown, no time to "sleep on it," nothing. We ended with that is not going to be happening and had the guy leave our residence. I have never in my 35 years on this earth seen such a sales tactic for construction work. Avoid at all costs unless you have numbers quotes from other businesses. $40/sq foot to install tile folks. TILE! I am disgusted by this. Remember, they call us and offered to come to our home for a free quote. We didn't go to them. I feel bad for the vulnerable people who don't have the energy and knowledge to say no and understand there are MUCH BET

Our existing roof was over 40 and in need of replacement. We contacted Hip and Ridge Construction and their representative came out the very next day. She was a pleasure to work with. She explained that there was a 50 year warranty on their materials and workmanship. She measured our roof and then we looked at samples of roofing and materials that we had brought with her. We selected the color and materials we wanted and she was able to give us an estimate on the spot. We signed the contract and two weeks later they came out and completed the job. I am extremely happy with the job they did and the clean up afterwards. I would highly recommend Hip and Ridge to anyone needing a new roof.

Update: So I get Knock at the door this morning. They sent the same guy to try and get me to sign the contract with them. I have had no other contact with this company in 10 months. They just won't take no for an answer. And I just happened to be home today how many times have they tried before today? Got a cold call about a quote, they were 2 hrs late, then came the hard sale. Quoted us 7k for a new Mastercraft door (200-400 @ menards) and 30 k for 4 windows, and this number was pulled out of thin air, aka scribled on back of scratch paper. Refused to show any type of breakdown. Wouldn't give us a quote without a contract.When we didn't want to sign a contract the same day, price started to come down. Even told us to just sign the contract and their financing, and we could always call b

We got a roofing estimate at THEIR request. We thought, ok, it's just an estimate. We didn't need much work done. Got our estimate for minimal roof work, for $39,000. We were absolutely shocked. We wanted an estimate only. They said the estimate was good for 18 months. Then they wanted us to sign and put half down. Um... no! We said we only wanted the estimate, as we would be getting other quotes. They immediately grabbed their estimate back (also on scratch paper), and tried lowering the price, but not much. Then they wouldn't let us keep the paper. I said, I thought it was good for 18 months, they said this is the contract. What?! Nice unprofessional contract. Also way overpriced. And super pushy salesman. Seemed to get angry and offended when we didn't want to sign our finances away. Al
