I started a fireplace remodel with John paying a 50% deposit, and our contract outlined detailed specifications for the dimensions of the fireplace. During the early part of construction, I measured the width at 82", and our discussions and contract was to have a 60" width fireplace. When I asked John to correct the issue, he ceased all communication and did not return, and then when I discussed pursing a small claim action 14 days later he said he would get around to finishing the job in 2 weeks (which would have been a month since he abandoned the job). I already had another contractor working to move things along. John has not returned the deposit and we are going to court. Good luck out there.
