Johnston's Chimney Sweep

Installed a ventless fireplace for us. Love it. They also were great to work with when we needed the pilot cleaned a couple years later.

I reached out to this company for a second estimate to reline the vent for my hot water heater. Over the phone, they quoted a rough cost of $1,200–$1,500 and mentioned a $100 “inspection” fee, which would be credited toward installation if I chose to proceed with them. When they came for the inspection, it turned out to be nothing more than taking measurements. There was no actual inspection—no ladder, no close-up view of the chimney, just an estimated height from the ground. They assured me they’d send a quote within two days, but after a full week passed without any follow-up, I had to call them. The quote finally arrived the next day (eight days after the “inspection”), but it was a disappointing $2,150 with no breakdown or details. I understand that costs can vary, but this was a subs

They were out to clean and inspect my chimney last. I was told there was a crack in firebox and the whole chimney needed replaced. Thank God I got a second opinion. He said there was no problem. It saved me $19,000. I don't know if Johnston's are crooks or inept. I would like to add that they may be right. I had a second company look at the email. They can't come out until Thanksgiving week so I'll know then.

I called yesterday thinking that I would need to wait for a few weeks or months. They were able to see me next day. They were also an hour early! That never happens with contractors, but I am thankful! They were able to make the repairs to my stove cap, sweep the chimney, and clean/make minor repair to my stove. They took the time to clean all evidence of them being at our residence! In total, we have 5 fireplaces and 3 Chimney's. We will use Johnston's again in the future!!

Never call this company for any service. They will come, charge you $100 the first time, then $150 the second time, and $250 for literally nothing—just for a visit. They promise to follow up with you and do the installation. However, there will be no callbacks, no further installation, or any work done. It’s clearly a fraud. They will not pick up the phone after their visit.
