McEuen Park Parking

I approached the Sixth Street Elevator with much apprehension, as I have been in many train station and other public elevators that smell strongly of urine. However, the Sixth Street Elevator is the greatest experience in a public elevator I have ever had. From the eponymous street to the parking garage, with only two stops, it is all you really need. When I called the elevator, the door immediately opened. Instead of a urine soaked floor, there was exquisite tiling, complete with bright LED lighting on the ceiling. The air was as fresh as the breeze off of the nearby Lake Coeur d’Alene. I would give it six stars if I could. If you do nothing else in this town, come to the Sixth Street Elevator.

I’ve lived in Coeur dAlene for 35 years. This wasn’t always a parking garage and this space was gifted to the city of Coeur dAlene on the condition it always provide the raw outdoor space to residents. Which in part still is, however, this parking garage was built and locals used to get free two hour parking…. Not anymore. Now they make money hand over fist with the enormous amount they make in permits and parking violations. As far as I’ve seen, no discounts for employees that work downtown either and serve the monumental amount of vacationers in the summer, which in turn helps promote this downtown area. A little one sided greed if you ask me.

The parking attendant (checker number 83658) was zero help. We tried to talk to him when the QR code took our money without sending a payment confirmation. He was no help and then proceeded to write us up after we paid online twice. Since we were paid up by now, he fined us $20 for improper parking. No explanation as to what we did improperly. The attitude of this city is extremely draconian. Beautiful area. Just don’t park there!

Parked here during the week when we visited Coeur d'Alene. We arrive about 10 Am and there were a lot of spaces. Left about 4 and it was nearly full. As many have said the kiosks are slow, took about 30 - 40 seconds to process the payment. You will need your license plate number and a credit card. It was $1 per hour for the week day. Convenient to the water front and shops. Says there are RV spots, however rather small about 35 ft total length.

My wife parked, walked to the Kiosk to pay and returned to a ticket. Meter maid probably watched her the whole time.
