We have lived in a 250 year old dutch farmhouse for the last 26 years. One of the fireplaces was so poorly reconstructed, most likely from the 50-60's that we could never use the fireplace. I called Kurt at Midtown and he suggested a wood-burning insert stove . He suggested a contractor to help with closing-in the fireplace hearth so that it seamlessly would receive the wood stove. They had to be pretty creative in how to make this work, and were really patient and focused on getting the best look possible for the age of the house. In the first month after having the wood burning insert installed, we have used it at least 20 times. Its super easy to fire, draws great, and warms the room fantastically.
