The observation deck was actually closed due to a wedding that was being set up for that day, but there was no information or signs telling us not to go there. We didn't really know where we were supposed to park or go, and then when we found the deck we couldn't go up there. It was a little disappointing. We did walk through some of the trails and the nature is beautiful. It was a cloudy/rainy day but lots of nature to explore. The different types of trees and plants were labeled. I thought we would see some giant redwoods but we didn't. The park overall has lots to do and is beautiful!

It's an idyllic experience, walking amongst the giants, staring up at a dense canopy with sunlight barely able to pierce through to the forest floor. You can park super close to the location for a really short hike if you're in a time crunch.

The Redwood Deck in Hoyt Arboretum is such a gem of a spot - right in city limits! I often walk/hike around Hoyt Arboretum in my free time; it's such an easy, accessible spot for connecting with nature, while still being close to amenities and other activities. The Redwood Deck is a short hike in from any parking area. I usually park at the Fairview Blvd visitor center (by Steven's Pavilion) and walk in. It takes me ~10-20 minutes depending on how leisurely I'm moving. And this spot is easy to get to from a lot of different trails. Most of the systems in Hoyt are connected at one point or another, so no matter where you start, you can probably get to this spot! I'm a local photographer (Venture Ever After) and have also documented a lot of elopements and small weddings here. It's no surpr

First time here. We came on a Wednesday morning at the end of April and it wasn’t busy at all. Definitely recommend wearing good shoes… there’s some walking to do to get to the redwoods (up and down heel). There’s not much parking available around the trail to the redwoods either. If I remember correctly there’s only four parking spots where we parked at. Very neat to see these trees in person.

All of Washington Park is worth a visit, but don’t miss the Redwood Observation Deck! A nature lover and/or photographer’s dream, this peaceful spot in the forest is surreal. You’ll feel like a part of the towering majestic Redwoods, not just an observer. The hike to get there is quick and easy, less than 30 minutes if you’re able. This serene adventure can be done in as little as 45 minutes. I’ve been to many Redwood forests and nothing compares to the views you see from this deck. I wish I could personally thank whoever designed and built it. It’s truly magical.
