Ron Gardner Aircraft Viewing Area at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

This small aircraft viewing area at FLL is a decent place to catch some runway action—but let’s just say the Force here is… moderate. I stayed about an hour and mostly saw departures. They tend to lift off quite a ways down the runway, so you don’t get those dramatic close-ups unless you’ve got a strong zoom lens. Just as I was pulling out, though, a lone arrival made its descent—a fitting finale before heading off to hyperspace. The setup is simple: a small parking lot, chain-link fence, and some blue signs marking the area. There’s even a loudspeaker playing live air traffic control chatter—a surprisingly cool touch that adds to the experience. Very nice spot for plane watching. Plenty of space for kids to run around if they want.

Nice place for the little ones obsessed with planes. The best place to take them to watch them take off and land that won’t be too loud.

Love this spot!! Good spot to wait for an arrival, take your kids to watch takeoff and landings or just a cool place to have a sandwich, especially if you are an aviation enthusiast. Listening to the tower chatter is interesting and having the pilots wave as they taxi to the runway is always something my kids look forward to.
