Be very careful when buying from Shamrock Materials in San Rafael. I visited the yard the day before and selected a pallet of good-quality stones right before they closed. I told them I’d be back in the morning to pick it up. When my driver arrived the next day, they had switched the pallet for a much worse one—full of poor-quality, broken stones. It was messy, unstable, and dangerously stacked with exposed steel mesh that wasn’t even secured properly, making it completely unsafe to transport. Several workers with forklifts insisted the pallet didn’t fit in the truck, but my driver kept explaining that it wasn’t the same pallet and the issue was the steel netting, which made the stones extend beyond the standard pallet size. They treat you like you are an idiot and clearly do not want your business. Annoyed with questions and they find reasons to disagree with you. Selection is good but to buy anything you practically have to beg them. Made multiple excuses to not sell me concrete, went to Marin Landscape - no problem. Same equipment, same truck.

Be careful not to order too much as unopened bags of rocks not returnable. Never informed of their policy verbally or stated on their invoice. Sold be double of what I needed after giving them dimensions. But even size bags much bigger than anticipated and they never said anything about want up reduce amount nor bad return policy. Best to get less and go back if more needed.

I just had a fantastic experience. These guys went above and beyond in their customer service. I arrived five minutes before closing and asked to borrow a rock sample for my fireplace and bring it back the next morning when they opened. They said this was against policy but accommodated me anyway and they literally saved me weeks of my time. I ordered the flooring that will go with their rock and I will come in next week to order the rock from Shamrock. Incredible experience. They have a customer for life with me!

We did a major outdoor renovation this year. I bought all of my materials Over several large orders from Shamrock. The dispatch guys are great. But the manager really needs to work on his business skills. I paid $24 for a sample piece of patio paver. I was told that upon return I would get my deposit back. I went back today to return the sample. I was told that because I did not have the receipt, they could not give me a refund. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars at Shamrock and for $24 and the way they handled it — it would be enough for me never to return. I left the stone and exited the store without my deposit back. I’m shocked at how petty they could be. I think the saying goes, “PENNY WISE AND POUND FOOLISH “?
