When looking for someone to tile my 14 square foot kitchen backsplash, I sought quotes from four different contractors and received bids ranging from $350 to $650. I hired the guy who came in at $460 (the second lowest bid). Big mistake! The guy spent two hours trying to cut one tile, and ruined his wet-saw blade in the process. So he packed up his tools and left - ostensibly to go buy another saw blade. After 4 hours of trying to reach him by phone, he finally called back and admitted he couldn't do the job because the mosaic tiles I'd chosen were too difficult for him to work with.
