They need to do better with class scheduling. The class I was interested in constantly got canceled last minute even though it was available at the times I signed up for it. For instructors who happen to read this review. I know the class you’re teaching is a little side job for you—a little back up plan while waiting for your bigger money project. Nothing wrong with that. But you’re not the only one who has schedule. People who sign up for your class commit their money and time. So please be respectful of their time. In other words, have some integrity.

I’m a bit shy and was really anxious to start taking my first classes here, but that anxiety was put to rest very quickly. I’ve never felt so comfortable at any similar studio space. The community is incredible, the coaches are stellar, and as a woman, seeing the wide diversity of students and teachers was incredibly comforting and encouraging. I’ve made so many friends here and it has really become a huge part of my community over the last year and a half. I highly recommend Swordplay LA to anyone and everyone who is interested in sport fencing, swords and stunts for film, or HEMA.

Took a free intro class to foil here at Swordplay LA and had a blast! It’s easy to schedule by submitting a form online—staff is pretty responsive and will give you a call to schedule. We had a 30 min session with Dan, who taught us basic footwork, lunges, and scoring. The location is in a warehouse and the entrance can be a bit hard to find - just look for the door with the ring camera. Staff here were welcoming and professional - would definitely come back for classes!

Great staff, engaging teachers, got us into fencing and HEMA. Now we are hooked and training for upcoming tournaments.

My 11-year-old daughter has been a student at Swordplay LA for a year, both in person at the Burbank location (private lessons with Ryan, group lessons with Tyler and Laelia) and throughout quarantine on Zoom (twice a week private lessons with Ryan, Wednesday night group with Laelia), and truly loves it. With so many of her after-school activities getting cut away due to quarantine (Girl Scouts, farm club, etc.), being able to continue pursuing her passion for fencing has been wonderful but also has added structure to our weeks inside, giving her something to look forward to. Also, with PE options fairly limited with school starting, it is also excellent exercise (seriously, it wipes her our after every class) which she likes. Ryan has always been incredibly flexible in scheduling and alwa
