30-064 Hillclimb Garage

Said it was Market but more for the waterfront. Had to climb several flights of stairs which smelled like urine. To walk up to the street and up hill to the market. The doors lock behind you so no reentry. You must walk to the entrance on Alaska, down several flights of stairs to the where the pedestrian entrance was locked! $40.00 for 2 hrs of parking . NOT recommended for market parking! On a good note, the parking spaces were roomy.

We called the number when we were trying to prepay and they weren't helpful. There was no button that said early bird and only had different amounts of hours. We paid for the most hours we could. Then when we were leaving there was a tenant and a manager. They argued that the sign said we had to be in before 8 am and he said he checked it this morning and knew it was correct. They made us pay for the additional time and as we pulled out we took a picture of the sign that clearly says early bird at 930 am. Now we understand why their google reviews were so low. We thought it was strange that a parking garage had so many bad reviews because it is pretty hard to screw up that business.

This parking garage is the worst. $25 for an hour of parking with rates that are not clearly disclosed. The pedestrian entrance is locked so we had to go around and enter through the driveway. No elevator so my 90-year-old mom had to wait while I went to get the car. Bad.

This garage is a scam. Unlike every parking garage in the city where you pay on your way out or via an app / license reader this one requires you to pay up front but there is not a single notification inside the garage that says this. So they have a person gleefully running around issuing $120 tickets within minutes of you parking because they KNOW most people are going to assume that you pay on the way out. There were five other people experiencing the same thing when I was there and there were dozens of cars with tickets between multiple floors. I am filing a complaint with the city as was the other folks that were that I chatted with.

TL;DR: Seek parking elsewhere. This location is expensive and possibly unscrupulous. I received a $100 parking fine at this garage for non-payment. The system they have in place requires payment when you arrive and park, not when you leave. I understand this is not an outlandish thing to do in the paid parking industry. It is the historical norm for curbside parking and in more recent years (5-10) it has become common in open lot paid parking. However, this is the first time that I had encountered it in a closed garage. So I did not follow the correct procedure when parking and planned that I'd figure out the payment when it was time to leave. Found a nice little ticket on my windshield upon return.
