Doors of Distinction

Jim did such a great job throughout the entire process. Our front door had been installed by a previous owner who cut the door to a custom size to make it fit. You could see through the cracks in our front door to outside. We reached out to Pella first and were incredibly discouraged with their customer service and ability to stick within our budget. I was then referred to Doors of Distinction. Jim sat down with us to pick the best option and stayed on budget. He definitely exceeded our expectations.

Our old attic access door, located in an upstairs bedroom closet ceiling, was essentially two squares of drywall screwed together and framed. It allowed smelly attic heat into the bedroom, making it less than ideal. I contacted Jim and he mentioned he has seen this before, and specializes in building insulated attic access doors. He took measurements, and built a door with two handles, 6 inches of insulation, weatherstripping, and 12 inch side walls so the existing attic insulation could be pushed up around it. The heat and smelly attic smells are gone, and I have a nice sturdy access to the attic. I would highly recommend this to any homeowner, especially if you have second floor attic access in your ceiling, as it will really help keep the attic heat out of the room.

Jim's easy to work with and it's clear his work is very professional. He will go through the entire process of selection with you, make recommendations, and itemize and explain all costs so there are no surprises. After the work is done he thoroughly cleans up after himself.

Jim finished off my basement into a family room, bedroom and bathroom, which was previously cement floor and 3 light bulbs! He is an excellent carpenter and general contractor. He displayed great attention to detail and was attentive to doing the job correctly the first time. I was very impressed with his reliability and timeliness. He was efficient in arranging other qualified professionals for electrical, plumbing, and drywall and stayed on schedule. He has a creative style, thinking outside the box, and is open for discussion to personalize the project.
