Karzen Restoration

I had 2 repairs made. My chair was fixed by drilling and inserting the chair rail. Apparently no glue was used. It came apart once again and the thin surrounding wood is deteriorated. This chair is mostly for looks but the fix was poor at best. A new rail should have been used. So drilling into rail once cost $150. I reinserted rail but it can no longer be trusted. I will use wood glue. Next project was installing an antique door to cavity in fireplace. Drilling was unsuccessful into brick since a graphite bit was not used. We have drilled and inserted hooks into brick previously. Granted the material may have precluded use of graphite but using correct tools is necessary. Hence double sided tape was used plus 4 metal clamps were used to attach 4 wood sides to door in back. I did want to b

Absolutely excellent and timely work. Had a new table heavily and deeply scratched as part of some home remodeling. We really liked this table so I looked around for an expert in high quality work. Alan came highly recommended and I can see why. Polite and willing to work in my time frame for a very fair price. Table looks like it was the day we brought it home. It's great to find someone who both works and acts like a true craftsman of old.

I was lucky enough to find Alan on Google and located not too far from our home. He restored 6 chairs beat up for 20 years by our children. The damage was significant. When he delivered them, I was amazed at how he brought back the original beauty of the wood. They look brand new! I have always done my own furniture restoration in the past, but I had come across this old Victorian dining table that had obviously been abused. There was actually newspaper print imprinted on the top of the table, most likely from not being used and letting junk sit on top of it for years. The detail on the sides of the table was just gorgeous and I was unable to pass it up, even though I knew restoring it was out of my league. I had met Alan Karzen in the past at Chamber of Commerce meetings and decided I would give him a call. What sold me, without even seeing his work, was that I knew he loved furniture and restoring furniture by the way he spoke. He even said to me, "It is so nice to see somebody with taste for old furniture." The process went flawlessly, from when his staff picked
