O'Brien Nurserymen LLC

Yesterday (8/12/25) was my first tour of O’Briens Nursery. The owner, John O’Brien, is so down to earth and knowledgeable. His (11 acres) with so many unusual and new-to-me specimens, all methodically plotted, were a feast for the eyes. The grounds are so tranquil and just breathtaking. It’s obvious John loves what he does and it shows. Bonus, his free roaming friendly cat was happy to allow me a few pets. Thanks again John.

My experiance with John O'Brien was not good. I picked out a tree last year, and he said his tractor was not running and would deliver it when the tree, a hoop pine. He didn't get back to me and ended selling it to someone else. He sold me a Asian fir which had a bare section for seven hundred dollars. When I talked to him about it he told me to tie the branhes together to hide the bare section. Then I gave him a deposit on a Large Hoop Pine, a $500 dollar deposit on a $2100 dollar purchase. He kept tellimg me he would deliver early next week for four weeks. He wouldn't respond to my texts or phone calls. I finally had to demand my money back. When I went to get my money and asked why, he said he didn't want to deliver it. Meaning he did not want to sell it to me. John just strung me alo

Ah, yes; John is a true plantman and is able to marry that style with a personality that draws you into his work. Imagine the pleasure this past July, when our Garden Group visited, as the sun was dropping below the tree line to provide relief from the humidity to have a tour of John's entire grounds (it's not just a nursery; it's a landscape). Of course, he has started with very good soil and built up from there. As we were admiring his oriental lilies in one area, my friend whispered to me, "I just counted 13 buds on one plant". Unheard of. But John makes it work.

Very knowledgeable. Generous with information. Incredible variety. Lovely grounds and specimens. Informative workshops. Impeccably cared for plants. Well worth the visit!

Went to visit during a American Conifer Society meeting. Great offerings of specialized confers. Knowledgeable and personal owner and sales people.
