Observation tower

We visited on an early Sunday morning in late Dec 2024. To get this observation tower we hiked down the Indigo Trail from Wildlife Drive. The Indigo Trail from the Visitor Center to Wildlife Drive was closed due to storm damage so you need to hike down the drive and then turn left. There is a cost to hike the trail. It's $1 per person if hiking but if you paid to do that drive, this is included. This is where the scat trail was. It was funny and entertained the kids for a few mins. We didn't' really see any wildlife from here as it was in Dec and I think most the plants were dormant as well.

Great place for birding. It is a short walk from the Ding Darling visitor center - and worth it. We were really close to many pairs of Blue-winged Teal, Anhinga resting right next to the walking bridge, Common Galinule, Red-shouldered Hawk, a few Tricolored Heron. This can either be part of a longer walk on the Indigo Trail, or a short out-and-back from the visitor center, so good options for a longer or a shorter walk. Bring the binoculars if you are a birder (or the camera)
