In our experience, SMO’s service was incomplete, inconsistent, and extremely stressful. Over the course of multiple visits between December and January, our oil furnace was repeatedly serviced but not properly diagnosed or corrected. During this time, the unit continued to soot heavily and operate improperly, leaving us without reliable heat during a severe winter period. Despite multiple service calls, proper combustion analysis was not performed correctly during the early visits. We were later advised by an independent, third-party HVAC contractor that the furnace had been operating with incorrect burner components and settings, including an incorrect nozzle, improper pump pressure, and incorrect air adjustments. If you really want to resolve this, you have my number, have someone call me that has the background and the authority to FIX THIS. This is the WORST customer service issue I have every dealt with. I've been receiving heating oil from SMO for over 14 years. This last delivery was horrible. The delivery driver was at my home for 4 minutes and delivered 180 gallons; I have it on camera. It was 4:27, so he must have been in a hurry to get off as he knocked over the blocks bordering my rose bushes (didn't bother to put them back), he spilled a large puddle of fuel in my driveway and several spots where he pulled away. He didn't even leave a bill/invoice on my front door. I called customer service to complain and was told they would notify management and email me the invoice as soon as it cleared the system. Southern Maryland Oil lacks integrity. I have been a customer of SMO for more than 25 years. I have been getting my oil deliveries through them and had them repair my furnace over these many years. I pay them $400+/year for a service agreement which includes an annual tune up. This past year they came out for my annual tune up. My system was working perfectly prior to their arrival. Immediately after the tune up my system stopped working. I called them back out and they explained a part had failed and they replaced it at a cost of $400. That same day my system failed again and they came back out and explained "Now we found the problem!" and replaced another part $400+.
