Solid Rock Masonry

Eric and his crew just finished a wood burning masonry heater in our new home. It is absolutely beautiful. Eric is an expert in the engineering design of these and has decades of experience customizing and constructing what ends up being a highly functional work of art. We opted to include a bake oven and with Eric’s help selected stone that worked with our color scheme. He is half mason, half artist, half combustion engineer. Yep….150% professional.

We have two months of fires behind us now in our Solid Rock Masonry Heater. And we are very happy that it is living up to our expectations. It is so easy to get a fire started compared to our 15 year old wood stove.

I took two separate workshops from Eric Moshier at the North House Folk School at Grand Marais, MN, on building a masonry heater. I then felt that I was able to build a masonry heater myself. I then ordered all the materials for the inner core along with the doors for the firebox and black oven, and the portions of the steel chimney that were needed. Also, a detailed construction guide was included with the shipment of materials. Eric was always very helpful whenever I had any questions or issues while I was constructing our heater. The Finnish Contraflow heater, that my wife and I chose to build, works beautifully and it is the primary heat source for our 900 square foot living space. Eric and his team are true artisans. My family built a home years ago and we wanted a masonry heater in the center of it. Eric worked with me and our architect to design the perfect heater for the space. I was able to check in daily while the team was constructing the heater and only wished I could have watched the entire process. I look forward to huge fires, warm radiant heat, and pizza every fall as the weather cools down eagerly anticipating the first fires of the season. Eric built our masonry fireplace in 2016, and we've used it as our primary heat source for the past 8-9 years. It remains beautiful and functional, and is the central focus of our kitchen. I couldn't ask for a better experience - he gave us a fast quote and charged that same amount. Eric was so easy to work with, able to adjust on the fly when the set-up we had wasn't quite what he had expected, and he provided follow-up information on how best to maintain the stove after our first winter with it. 100% would recommend Solid Rock Masonry to anybody, and if I have the opportunity to build another masonry stove he will be my first call.
