I went in here to buy paint, but they repeatedly refused to mix it for me even though the sign said they would do that at the time I was there, and they were not polite about it. When I asked when they would be able to, they just said, "Not for weeks," and shrugged me away from the counter, even though there were multiple employees standing idly by. There's plenty of other hardware stores in the area and a few within walking distance, so I'll be going elsewhere from now on.

I shop here frequently. The staff is always friendly and they almost always have what I want.....at reasonable prices. Yesterday, I brought in an expensive heavy-duty stapler that had gotten jammed because we used the wrong size staples. The sales person at the front desk spent about ten minutes taking it apart and fishing out the jammed staples. "No charge," he said when I offered to pay him. "Happy to help."

As I was browsing the store for an item, that they didn't even have, I was scanning the shelves and an employee, a middle aged man, asked if I had been helped yet. I had my headphones in and was talking to my sister so I turned around and took out my headphones and told my sister to give me a moment. When I was about to respond, the employee walked away and mumbled something along the lines of "Just keep talking on your phone.." and before I could process what he was saying I told him I hadn't been helped, he went on to tell me that "[He doesn;t] help people that are on their phones." Then went on to complain about me to another customer within ear shot. I was NOT impressed with the customer service I was being given and will not be returning any time soon to this location. For a quick local stop in the heart of U District this is a great place. They have a strong selection of typical hardware store items. If you need specialty or wider selection, best pricing, etc... you're better set heading to a larger box store.

Poor selection with overpriced items. I've been there a few times with the service being pretty good, but this last time the service was bad. The staff member was rude and was bluntly trying to up-sell me. If you can make the journey, try one of the larger chains.
