Waimea-Kohala Airport (MUE)

Waimea Kohala Airport in Big island is conveniently located near the highway which makes for a quick entry and departure. The areas are clean and well maintained. It would be wonderful if there was air-conditioning and more seating, as it can get quite hot under the tropical conditions. There is a costco ( including gas pumps) conveniently located near the car rentals so it is possible to get a quick pick up and drop to the car, refill and refuel at Costco and head off to make memories. The people are friendly like everywhere at Hawaii but be prepared to empty your suitcases and dispose of fruit, flowers and many other produce on the prohibited list as it is not permitted to carry any of those out of Hawaii.

Great local airport, I Have flown in and out many times visiting the other islands. Super friendly staff, clean, beautiful views. While, I have parked my car and left it many times, I just returned from two nights in Waikiki to find someone had evidently backed into my car, caved in the back bumper. No cameras in the lot and it’s park at your own risk, no note. I’ll still fly out of Waimea but I’ll never leave my car there again. just a friendly FYI. .

visited in 07/07/24 and 07/09/24 planed to depart from here but strong wind prevented taking off. An officer drove us to KOA then we depart…beautiful scene and kind people here😋
