Melissa did a fantastic job restoring the oil enhanced photograph. Her careful work maintained the original expression on the woman’s face while also bringing some much-needed color back to the painting. I love that both the painting and the wood/metal frame have been restored and will be something that is sure to be a family heirloom.

Melissa brought our 100 year old painting back to the best I’m sure it’s looked since it was first painted. It had been in a chain smoker’s house for 45+ years before my partner inherited it. She also helped tighten and fill in gaps in the very old wooden frame so it looks a lot better— before you could see light coming through where the wood had warped. The process to me feels like taking your very old but beloved antique car in and having someone totally detail it, fix all the rock chips, restore the depth of color and luster, and get it ready for another 100 years. It’s like a total refresh and ensures the painting will be protected from UV. Melissa Chaney is a talented artist, art conservationist and the consummate professional. As long as I can remember this painting hung in my parents home and then was gifted to me. My parents smoked and my mother also tried to “clean” this painting. The frame was missing gilding, the backing was held by tape and the hardware was brittle. Upon restoration Melissa discovered the painting was canvas mounted on a century old spaghetti noodle box. Melissa cleaned the painting, repaired two pinpoint holes in the canvas, gilded the framed and replaced the hardware.
