When we purchased our house, we did so with the understanding that the “family room” would need to be turned into a bedroom with its own bathroom. There wasn’t any existing plumbing in that room which further added to the complexity. It would also have to be handicapped accessible, as the person who would be using it is in a wheelchair. We knew that this would be a large, complicated project, and we needed a good contractor to help us recognize our vision for the room. That is where Joe Chavis (from Chavis Building and Renovation) came in. We were new to the Toledo and a Google search later, we found Chavis Building and Renovation. Joe has built a very customer centric company that focuses on high quality results. We were introduced to Joe by our designer for our kitchen remodel. Our kitchen remodel included completely gutting our old cabinets and floors, installing new floors, new cabinets, and new counters. It also included completely ripping up the ceiling to update light fixtures, re dry walling said ceiling, plus other electrical rewiring (new light switches, dimmers, etc), and a new tiled backsplash. Joe's team spans a significant amount of expertise, with people specializing in electrical, cabinet installation, dry wall/tile/paint, and finished carpentry (and I’m sure many others!). Strange interactions all around. From the start, I called, emailed, messaged on Facebook to get a quote for some house work completed. I was finally able to get an appointment to get a quote after a couple weeks of attempts. From there, Joe came in and we walked through what our goals were and my wife and I felt like he was trying to talk us out of getting work done. We expressed our goals and were basically told what to do and what he thinks would be best for our home. Joe was also talking about how good of work he does and how he’s selling one of his homes for a lot of money because of his work and he kept asking us how much we purchased our home for, our interest rate and a lot of questions that did not seem relevant to a quote for having some floors redone. After reading reviews about Chavis Building and Renovatios I called them to get a quote on refreshing my 25 yr old kitchen, wallpaper removed, walls painted, kitchen cabinets painted, tile back splash, new countertop/sink. I was impressed with Joe right from the start, and he did not disappoint. He and his team were nothing but courteous. They answered any questions I had, the job was done neatly and timely, with no added costs. Joe and his team were with me to help with the tough decisions. Ryan did an excellent job painting the cabinets, walls and tile work. After a full day of working he took the time to send me photos with different views of how the tile would look, and he also did follow up calls long after his work day was done! When I called Chavis Building & Renovation Services, we had minimal time and several projects to complete before our home hit the market. To say we were overwhelmed would be an understatement. The crew that came out CRUSHED the work we needed, and Joe's experienced eye knew what other projects needed to be completed as well. They tore out our 1942 sink and backsplash and updated it, gave us new flooring, transformed a massive "bonus" room over the garage, and replaced a rickety banister, among many other things in just a few days. Joe remained in contact daily, visited the job site, and delivered above and beyond expectations. Most importantly, his crew models his commitment and work ethic. They showed up early, and stayed a full 8 hours or more every day. Chavis Building and Renovatio
