Having a 150 year old Victorian house with a slate roof is both a blessing and a curse, no more so when trying to find adequate craftsman who can do repairs properly. Finding contractors who can also do more complex projects like replacing all the metal linings of your wooden gutters is even harder; in our case we looked for almost two years to find a crew that actually seemed to know what they were doing. We had to replace a flat, rubber roof that was under a second floor deck and called JB Kidney and Sons, because they had installed a standing seam, copper roof on another section of our house. Scott Kidney and his crew arrived promptly on the agreed-upon date. The roof was in worse shape than we knew and had electrical wiring that needed replacement, but Kidney met these unexpected problems with no hesitation. The final product was well-crafted, with red copper flashing and sloping high R-value insulation. The quality of design and implementation is much higher than what we originally had.
